Aaron Lacrate, DJ
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Sat. June 17, 10:15am
On Philadelphia: "I grew up in Baltimore in an environment where you're supposed to be doing more than one thing good, not just one thing good. And Philly seems to be like that. And it's a little larger, a bit more cultural than Baltimore so I think kids are much more comfortable here. Philly has a long musical history. You can trace hip-hop artists back 20 years and on the soul level there's a legion of musicians. You were aware of people growing up—Schooly D, Steady P, those guys. A lot of the people I've met from Philly, the whole Hollertronix thing, brought fun back into a lot of shit. Baltimore can be a little bit too hard and New York can be a little too snotty, but Philly is right in the middle."
Lacrate's Baltimore Club Crack, which features the new sound of Baltimore club music slowed down to hip-hop tempo, will be released soon. He sells apparel at www.digitalgravel.com.

Finesse Mitchell, Comedian
Latham Hotel, Thurs., June 8, 1:30pm.
On Philadelphia: "This is my first time here. Well, actually, I did something in Philly, a school, but I don't know where, though I had to go to 30th Street Station to get back to New York. Philly seems pretty nice, so I don't know why everybody gives it a hard time. I do Donovan McNabb and Stephen A. Smith on SNL. With McNabb it's more about his mom, because she's the loud character. McNabb actually invited me to perform at his charity, but I can't because I have two shows. When I saw Stephen A., I was like, 'Hey, I do you on the show,' and he was like, 'I know,' so I don't know how he took it. I also saw the steps that Rocky ran up. That was impressive. I'm going to go check out some museums tomorrow-looking forward to that. Other than that, I didn't bring a jacket, so I'm kind of weirded out that it's kind of chilly, because in New York it's a little warmer."
Finesse Mitchell has been a featured player on Saturday Night Live since 2005.

Kelis, Singer
Belvedere Vodka listening party, 32˚, Tues., May 30, 9:30pm.
On Philadelphia: "There's good shopping here, and I always find someplace where I can get something good to eat. Philly is so close to New York that I don't feel like I'm out of town, really. It feels right over the bridge, pretty quick, and everyone I work with is from here-my manager, my road manager, everybody. There's a really grassroots following of music here, particularly of black music, and you can always identify the Muslims here, the young guys with the beards. It's a dope city; it's good. The style pretty much seems the same, I think, as New York."
Kelis' new album Kelis Was Here drops July 25. Her single "Bossy" is out now.
