Mo'Nique, Actress
Four Seasons Hotel, Wed., March 22, 3:45pm.
On Philadelphia: "I performed at the Academy of Music about three years ago. My favorite thing to do in Philly is to go to Ms. Tootsie's, the soul food restaurant. She has this sweet potato cheesecake that you would probably rob somebody for. I was filming the movie Shadowboxer here, and my trailer was about three blocks away from the location. I played a junkie in that movie and I was at my lowest point. So I told Lee Daniels, the director, I wanted to walk back to my trailer to see if people recognized me. And as I was walking back people were like, 'Mo'Nique? Are you okay?' I looked like a junkie. People were stopping their cars, they were running around the corner, because word got out that, 'Y'all, Mo'Nique is walkin' down the street and somethin' ain't right.' So Philadelphia has a special kind of love. It's like family."
Mo'Nique is starring in the movie Fat Girlz, opening April 7.

Isobel Campbell, Singer
World Cafe Live, Tues., March 13, 5:45pm.
On Philadelphia: "I've been here once, six or seven years ago with Belle and Sebastian, but I was sick so I didn't see any of it. We just arrived here, did the session, did the sound check, after the show back to New York. We're playing in Brooklyn tomorrow night. I don't really know much about Philadelphia. There's that cheese, Philadelphia Cream Cheese? Does that come from here? I've seen Rocky. I liked it a lot, but I hate it when Paulie dies. I hated that part. I doubt I'll have time to go out in the city this time. Maybe one day I will."
Isobel Campbell's Ballad of the Broken Seas, which also features singer Mark Lanegan, was released earlier this month.

Alice Cooper, Musician
Chickie's & Pete's, Thurs., March 2, 1:45pm.
On Philadelphia: "Philly was one of the cities that really liked Alice Cooper. In the early days, before we had any hits, we used to play the old Electric Factory and little clubs around town. We just saw the Dalì exhibit here. Before I was in a band I was an art major in school. Salvador Dalì was like the Beatles to me. When I got a call from him saying he wanted to work with me, it was like Paul McCartney calling and saying he wanted to write a song with me. There were so many clubs in the '70s here in Philly we used to go to. The fact that I can't remember much means it had to have been the '70s. There was one-was it Artemis? It was at the same time as Studio 54, and it had a big gorilla over the bar. Isn't that weird?"
Good to See You Again, Alice Cooper: Live 1973, a film that documents the group's early days, is now available on DVD.
